Friday Miscellany
Here are a few items from the past week:
- Phillip Martin sent some written questions to Democratic Senate hopefuls Mikal Watts and Rick Noriega. Both candidates responded, and you can read the results at BOR. Check ’em out.
- I’m still getting up to speed on the Graeme Frost story. Frost is the 12-year-old boy who delivered the Democratic response to President Bush’s radio address a couple of weeks ago. Frost criticized the President’s recent veto of the bipartisan S-CHIP legislation. In 2004, Frost and his sister suffered severe injuries in a car accident. Thankfully, their parents had obtained health insurance coverage via S-CHIP. More than a few wingnuts have gone batty attempting to impugn the boy’s story. It’s truly despicable. Think Progress has the basic background here. Also read Paul Krugman and Ezra Klein.
- Speaking of S-CHIP, the supposedly moderate Kay Granger (my representative) voted against the measure, and presumably will vote to sustain the President’s veto. Vince has more on the subject here.
- You’ve no doubt heard by now that the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Al Gore and the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. More than a few wingnuts have gone batty attempting to impugn the Nobel Committee’s decision. Graeme Frost and his family are no doubt relieved that wingnut attention has been diverted elsewhere.
